It’s the Final Countdown to My Favorite Sale of the Year
With the weather in the 90’s (this is the first week that it actually feels like July), it’s hard to even think of fall fashions, but I guess it will be cooling down before we know it. Wah, wah. I start to get somewhat excited for the fall when the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale starts mid July (and by the time the sale ends in August, I’m gearing up for the kids’ return to school). Earlier this week, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale preview became available for our viewing pleasure. This is a much more civilized way to plan your shop for the biggest sale of the year, as opposed to the google spread sheet that used to be leaked out a few days before the start of the sale.
Anyone can view the preview, Nordstrom cardholder or not. Simply head over to the Nordstrom website or the app. Click on “Preview the Sale Now” and start adding items to your Wish List right away. You can edit your Wish List and make sublists and categories. It’s a whole thing! But I promise you it’s worth it to put a little time in now. Planning is super helpful when it comes to prioritizing your purchases because stuff goes fast. When it’s your turn to shop, items can easily be moved from your Wish List into your shopping cart. It’s so easy that you’d be silly not to do the N Sale this way.
So… wanna see what’s on my Wish List this year? My full Wish List has over 150 items (mostly “research”. wink, wink). I won’t bore you with it all, but here is what I am most excited about grabbing at 12:01 am on my designated shopping day!

Mark your calendars to start shopping on:
July 11 for ICON status cardholders. These are the highest tier cardholders who spend the most money at Nordstrom throughout the year, so they get first dibs on the sale. Not to worry, Nordstrom restocks throughout the entire sale and usually does so on days when the sale opens up to more people.
July 12 for AMBASSADOR status cardholders. All Nordstrom cardholders should have been notified of their status and when their tier can shop. You can also find it on the landing page of the app.
July 13 for INFLUENCER status cardholders. This is the day that the rest of the Nordstrom cardholders can shop, so I expect this to be one of the busiest shopping days of the sale.
July 17 the sale opens to the PUBLIC, and runs until August 6, when prices go back up. It’s pretty painful to see the real price of something you were eyeing but didn’t move on.
Shopping officially starts at 12:01 am on your designated day. And believe me, there will be plenty of people online shopping at that time.
In preparing for the sale this year, I traveled down memory lane with a few of my most worn pieces from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in the past. Every one of these items came straight out of the laundry basket because they had just been washed since they were recently worn (and sweat in) by yours truly.

Here’s my advice regarding what and how to shop the N Sale:
Use this sale to stock up on basics that aren’t so exciting but are necessary so getting them at a lower price is always a win. Socks, underwear, bras, sports bras, etc. Yep, good for the whole family, too. Included in “basics” is my favorite category, activewear.

Use this time to buy from brands that you already know and love and that don’t often go on sale. For me, that’s Alo and Free People Movement. Also on this list for me this year is Dyson, Tom Ford and the newly added, Beis and Lunya. These brands will likely sell out first so shop them first!

Use this sale for a denim refresh. What makes this sale so special is that it includes new items for the upcoming season, unlike most sales which only include end of season, older items. So that’s why I love buying new denim here. While we all love our leggings, it still feels really good to put on a new pair of jeans that fit just right!

Do use the sale for footwear. Other influencers are going to focus on the boots. Not me. It’s sneakers all the way! And there are some really good ones in the sale this year. I have over a dozen pairs of sneakers on my Wish List. I know, I have a problem.

I’ve been shopping this sale for over a decade and have made and learned from my mistakes:
Don’t try to predict little kid sizes, styles and tastes for upcoming seasons. I ALWAYS get it wrong and always end up returning. Luckily, Nordstrom has the most lenient return policy so it’s never been an issue.
Don’t focus too much on those “special” pieces with this sale. Yes, Farm Rio (a brand that I love but that is known best for their unique, colorful and eye-catching prints) has a few pieces in the sale, but do you really want that one dress that everyone bought during the Nordstrom sale? While it may be oh so pretty, it’s not oh so special anymore when everyone in your neighborhood is wearing it.
Don’t get so carried away in NSale craziness. 30% off of brand new styles is really exciting but I approach every sale with the same mentality— Do I really love it? Do I really need it? If the answer is no, move on. Yes, even here. But, unlike other sales, when in doubt there is no risk in purchasing it. You can always return with Nordstrom. And that’s why I love shopping here.
