Activewear Brands That Are Adding Swimwear

It’s no surprise that many activewear brands are adding swimwear to their collections. These companies have mastered fit and performance using fabrics that are engineered to handle the most high impact workouts. The fabrics used in activewear are pulled and stretched and drenched and heated and washed again and again. So what’s a little sand, salt water and chlorine? That seems like an easy job for these activewear brands.

Year of Ours is one of my favorite brands as far as fit and fabrics go. Their high waisted ribbed leggings and shorts have the most perfectly comfortable and super flattering rise. The texture throughout the leggings make any lumps immediately smooth out. So when I learned about Year of Ours new swimwear collection, using said ribbed fabric, I was more than eager to add a few swim pieces to my shopping cart. But I skipped right past the triangle tops and thong bottoms to the more athletic styles.

So I guess I am starting with the Football One Piece. That seems athletic enough for me.

I struggle to find a one piece that is long enough for my torso so I knew I scored when I put this one on and it actually fit. And fit great. The stretch of the fabric hugs the body just right. The double layer conceals and smooths. And it’s got that rib texture that I am always talking about. The “football” in the name comes from the tie down the front. There is also a two piece bottom with the same tie detail.

I also picked this suit because it’s got a full coverage bottom. Another challenge I face when buying swimwear is to find more than just a cheeky backside. I’m not trying to turn heads that way at my local pool, so a full coverage bottom is always the first thing I look for in a bathing suit … and it becomes harder and harder to find every summer. This style of swimwear has more coverage in the back. That being said, it’s a little skimpier than the full coverage you may be used to. It cuts higher up on the hip, too. I added this adorable skirt because let’s face it, I tend to spend more time trying to look cute around the pool than swimming in the pool. The skirt is part of a set but the top isn’t the vibe I’m going for at the neighborhood pool.

I know you probably want to see the back of the suit, so I’ll leave the booty modeling to the professionals.

The Rib Swim Short and the Julianna Bikini Top below make the perfect pair for SUP Yoga.

Yes, this suit totally looks and fits like a sports bra and boy short workout set but it’s made for the pool. It’s ideal for any water activity that comes your way this summer, even if that activity is simply prancing along the shoreline. This suit kept me 100% confident that I was covered for all of the poses I attempted on the paddle-board (key word being “attempted”).

And this color (“Pieces Blue”) is just meant to be near the water. I will give you a booty view in this full coverage boy short bottom.

It’s not just Year of Ours that’s jumped into the pool. Other popular activewear brands have followed suit.

Here are my favorites:

Vuori. The Dune bathing suit (top left corner and bottom left corner) is one of my favorites as far as fit goes. It’s super flattering and provides good coverage without being a “mom suit” (you know what I mean). I don’t go on a beach vacation with the kids without this suit. I just know I’ll be able to move all around without anything popping out (you also know what I mean). This style comes in a two-piece (above in the tan and white animal print) and a one-piece (above in red) and there are several gorgeous solids, and one print available right now. Sizing is TTS. I wear a size medium.

Lululemon. I own a few different bathing suits from Lululemon but I am curious to try these latest styles (top middle and top right corner). They are currently in my cart, but I haven’t pushed "place order” yet. Do I need another bathing suit? Probably not. But these styles are so cute and like all things Lulu, I am sure they are great. I love the athletic style of the two-piece. Like I could see myself playing beach volleyball in this… if I played beach volleyball.

The Upside. I am not at all surprised that this Australian activewear brand has a bathing suit (bottom right corner). This long sleeve stylish “surfer girl” suit (the only style available right now) is just so gorgeous. It comes in a few color options and patterns but the navy palm print is my favorite. And the booty coverage is good. Don’t worry, ladies, I am not sharing anything here that is too cheeky. With the sale price at $129 (original is $210), I may just have to give this one a try, too. Even though it’s Australian sizing, I’d probably order a size medium, which is equivalent to a US 8, for extra torso length.

Free People Movement. I love this cool two-piece from Free People Movement that comes in tons of colors (I am showing you my two favorites in the two bottom middle photos). A high waisted bikini does wonders on holding in the tummy, just like those coveted high waisted leggings we have all been living in.

My June Studio Tour concluded with this SUP Yoga Community Class by Aqua Vida. So I’d say summer is off to a fabulous start! I hope some of these bathing suits will take you through the next few months of fun in the sun. I linked all of the swimwear featured in this article (some of them are even part of those abundant 4th of July sales). Like always, if you purchase anything using my links, I will make a small commission, at no additional cost to you. Enjoy the holiday weekend, friends. Stay safe. Stay hydrated. Stay cool. And keep moving.

Next up for me— that sale that only happens once a year, and I train for it all year long. So I guess I’ll see you at Nordstrom in two weeks!
