The Stars Are Aligned for You to Be the Best You in 2023
Sure, I can help you set your goals for 2023 like everyone else. But why not have a little fun this year? Let’s base those goals on something totally cosmic. Using the zodiac signs as a guide, I am offering you suggestions in the areas of exercise, wellness and self-care. I used your sun sign’s core personality traits, preferences, guiding elements, your sense of self, and the colors that best fit your vibe, to help you find the best you this year. And of course, I included fresh new gear so you will look and feel on point while achieving those goals. So… Here is your complete fitness and wellness guide for the new year based on your zodiac sign.
Capricorn (DECEMBER 22-JANUARY 19)
Capricorns, you don’t need much help to get you moving. You are a hard worker and persistent so it’s very likely that you already set those fitness goals and are working towards them. This year, consider going big. Make a big, bucket-list goal. With your responsible and disciplined nature, you will be able to tackle it. For daily exercise, I’m suggesting a structured workout like Orange Theory. There are always three parts to this class: the treadmill, the rower and strength training on the floor. This workout is intense and effective and requires discipline and commitment to get there a few times a week. But that’s your thing, Capricorn! For wellness, I am recommending some grounding treatments such as a grounding mat to be situated under your feet, on your desk, or under your body on your bed. Hermatite crystals will also help to ground and connect you to the past. Use the grounding lotion stone for self care this winter.
Aquarius (JANUARY 20- FEBRUARY 18)
Intelligent and forward thinking, my Aquarius friends inspire others to follow in their humanitarian footsteps. And there aren’t a shortage of important social causes for the Aquarius woman to throw herself into this year. More extreme sports, like skiing and rock climbing, will get the Aquarius girl moving. For daily workouts, try these newer formats that will put you in your element— the air. The novel Bungee workout will satisfy your thrill seeking nature by being harnessed to a bungee cord— even if it’s only suspended a few feet above the ground. For more of a cardio burn, get bouncing in a trampoline workout class. Step into some (very) cold air of the cryotherapy chamber for the ultimate in wellness treatments. You can also get a cryotherapy facial to tighten the skin and leave your face glowing. Your open, progressive nature will reap the benefits of these newer but very effective healing therapies.
Pisces (FEBRUARY 19- MARCH 20)
My fellow Pisces friends (my birthday is March 4. when is yours?), use your intuition to help you pick the right type of movement or therapies this year. It should come as no surprise that I am choosing a workout that involves a connection to the water. Doing yoga or Pilates on a stand-up paddle board in a pool or on the bay, not only makes for a more challenging class, but also incorporates the surrounding water into the class. And this brings me peace. I am also recommending Soulcycle or other musically driven workouts. When you specifically move with the music, your creative and musical nature will thrive in that room. For wellness, give a floating spa a whirl for that mind body connection that results from a total sensory deprivation experience. A seaweed wrap is a fitting self care treatment for my Pisces girls.
Aries (MARCH 21 - APRIL 19)
Aries is the most active sign. The fire symbol that is full of energy and leads with the head. I’m suggesting the high intensity of a CycleBar spin class for an everyday workout. At CycleBar, the entire room is grouped together to accomplish various class milestones. You rise with the room. And since Aries likes to lead and fight for a specific goal, this workout will keep our Aries friends mentally satisfied and physically sweaty. Hot yoga using infrared heat and added humidity is another great workout for Aries to put you in your element. For a detoxifying wellness treatment, step into the infrared sauna for 45 minutes and sweat it all out. And take that LED light to your face with the Higher Dose face mask to rejuvenate the skin and boost your mood…which I am sure you will welcome during the cold Northeast winters.
Taurus (APRIL 20 - MAY 20)
Taurus is well-grounded, patient and practical. Because of this, I am suggesting slow flow yoga for Taurus’ favored workout this year. This class methodically moves through the poses and holds each pose for a few seconds. Since you don’t like sudden changes, this class will be perfect, so long as you connect to the instructor, which is very important for this sign. Taurus is very sensual and tactile so a massage is the perfect wellness treatment. And for self care, the Gua Sha tools will stimulate the nerves in the face to relieve puffiness and inflammation.
Gemini (MAY 21 -JUNE 20)
A curious, open mind can lead to progress. And the Gemini will welcome the opportunity to take up a different kind of workout this year. Because you like an intellectual challenge and can learn quickly, I am recommending dance cardio. Your fun loving and childish nature will allow you to let go of your inhibitions and enjoy every step of it. Dance cardio will keep you on your toes while testing your brain to remember the moves. With this type of exercise, a strong community tends to form and the Gemini will eagerly join in. I also recommend you learn to box for fitness this year. Boxing creates both the brain and the brawn of the bunch! Our Gemini friends get to have all the fun with puppy yoga for therapy in the new year and a colorful gel manicure for a trendy self care service.
Cancer (JUNE 21 - JULY 22)
Cancer friends are channeling their emotions and imaginations to become more spiritual this year. Continue to use your strong attachment to your family, background and memories to help move you forward. Cancer will benefit from the more meditative Yin yoga practice. The heart opener pose fits well with the Cancer woman, who is known for listening to her heart above all else. Meditation and tarot card readings are wellness and self care services that will help bring Cancer to her spiritual awakening in 2023.
Leo (JULY 23 - AUGUST 22)
Gratitude and appreciation for life is the theme for your year, Leo. Use your confidence to propel you into the new year. I am recommending Pilates as your workout this year. Your strong sense of body awareness will help you to build long, lean core muscles through low impact movements that have big intentions. Our Leo friends might need some additional help to boost their energy so I am recommending a liquid IV infusion treatment with a bag full of B-Complex, B-12 and Vitamin C. Virgo (AUGUST 23 - SEPTEMBER 22)
Functional training is the perfect workout for the Virgos in the audience. The analytical and hardworking nature of the Virgo fits with this strength building workout that uses exercises to improve daily living. At places like F45, you will focus on a different body part each day so committing to this workout for several days a week will result in a full body workout by the end of the week. For a beneficial wellness treatment, take a forest bath (Shinrin Yoko), which is a slow, intentional walk in the middle of a forest in order to reconnect with nature. Immersing oneself in the details of the forest will allow the Virgo to let go and reconnect with the earth (the Virgo’s element). For self care, use acupuncture seeds in the ear to reground and heal using the many pressure points of the ear.
Libra (SEPTEMBER 23 - OCTOBER 22)
Peaceful, calm and social describe our Libras, so I am recommending a barre workout at a few of my favorite barre studios. This graceful and low impact form of exercising focuses on small, repetitive movements and strengthening the core through balance. The Libra will appreciate the symmetry of this workout, as well as the way the class moves together. Because Libra is the sign of marriage, I suggest that the Libra shares her wellness treatment experience with a partner. Couples yoga, couples massage and couples sound bath are all great options. Meditation and energy balancing using the third eye will be a very effective self care practice for the Libra, who welcomes serenity, as well as a deepened spiritual connection.
Scorpio (OCTOBER 23 - NOVEMBER 21)
Scorpios will channel their individual strength and power through heavy weight lifting at places like CrossFit. Because they are fearless to a tough challenge, Scorpios might even consider entering an individual fitness competition, like the CrossFit Games, this year. For wellness treatments, acupuncture will help Scorpios recover after pushing their bodies to the edge. The Scorpios could really benefit from Reiki to unblock tensions and inner struggles with the dishonesties of the world that preoccupy their minds.
Sagittarius (NOVEMBER 22 - DECEMBER 21)
The Sagittarius woman is ready to embrace new workouts and wellness trends with open arms. Zumba combines various cultures from Latin America and the Sagittarius will really appreciate this worldly influence. Modern Zumba classes are playful just like you! Trends of the stars and the solar system will be healing for the Sagittarius, who is accepting of gifts from the universe. Ayurvedic therapies, using herbal oils, are ancient Indian wellness treatments that our Sagittarius friends will be open to trying this year.
