“Break a Sweat, Not the Planet” with Allbirds New Activewear Line.

I hope that you already know about what has been called the “world’s most comfortable shoes”. If not, you have been missing out on Allbirds for the past 7 years. Allbirds revolutionized using renewable materials to make sneakers that are comfortable, good-looking and sustainably produced. Tree Dashers are Allbirds most technical shoe so I had to give these babies a try. They are running shoes made from natural materials. And like all Allbirds shoes, they have a simple design, are lightweight, comfortable and machine washable. I am enjoying these sneakers for my shorter runs and cross training because they are breathable, and yes, they do live up to the hype in the area of comfort.

But, alas I am not writing this article to tell you about the Allbirds sneakers, what launched this company in 2014. I am writing to share their new activewear line with you! I know, I was pretty stoked when I saw that Allbirds added activewear to their product line. Since the Allbirds sneakers are an incredible, game changing product, I had to see if the activewear followed suit.

I chose to try the Women’s Natural Leggings and the Natural Run Form Tank. These pieces are made for running and since running is now taking up 70% of my exercise time a week, it seemed like the obvious choice.

My initial impressions, before even putting them on, were “man, the fabric is so silky soft.” It always amazes me that technical fabrics can be so soft and comfortable. The world is now wearing their activewear all day, beyond the gym, so fabrics needed to work for our versatile lifestyles. Add the fact that these pieces are made from sustainable, natural materials like tree fibers, and I continue to be wowed by modern manufacturing.

So, how do these new pieces hold up when put to the test? Well, my test was a long run… a hilly run… on a morning that started brisk but quickly turned hot as the sun rose in the sky.

Generally, my biggest complaints about leggings when I run is a sagging crotch, lack of support and a waistband that doesn’t stay put. No way do I want to be messing with my leggings while I am busy training. Well, these pants did none of those annoying things. I could tell right away that I was going to really like these tights for running. They had structure. The fabric was substantial. I could tell that while they were comfortable, they were going to be supportive and hold me in during my runs.

The waistband is high but also has elastic all around (that you can even adjust and tighten) so these pants are really going to stay put. I love the level of compression with this fabric. It’s supportive without being at all constrictive. The four way stretch of the fabric makes them perfect for taking long strides when I run. I always size down in my leggings so I went with a size small.

Conclusion— these are going to be my go-to running leggings this fall. The fabric seemed to adjust to the changing temps too. They are thicker for the colder fall mornings but wick moisture and are breathable for warmer fall days. Allbirds, your new Women’s Natural Leggings are Fitness Finds approved!

Since the Women’s Natural Run Form tank is made from the same fabric as the pants, I knew I was going to like the top just as much. I went with my normal, true-to-size medium on the top and I thought it looked pretty big before I put it on. However, the fit is just perfect. The top is a longer bra top that offers a great deal of support while being comfortable. There are no bra cups in this top but it has a built in shelf bra made from “power mesh.” This top is such a good length, especially when paired with the high waist of the Natural Leggings. With my long torso, just a little bit of my skin is showing. I love the lines of this tank, the stitching details, the logo placement in the back, the racer back and this gorgeous, limited-edition color called Aubergine. It reminds me of all of the Cabernet I plan to drink by the fire this fall… after I run in my new activewear.
