I’m Currently Training to Shop the Biggest and Best Sale of the Year
Now that June is over, I am in training mode. Training for the Chicago Marathon in October. But, more importantly, I am currently training to shop the biggest and best sale of the year that officially kicked off with early access today.
Last year, Nordstrom made shopping the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale way easier by opening the sale preview to everyone. (In year’s past, a google spread sheet from Nordstrom stylists would circulate- no joke!). And like every big event, preparation makes for success! Now everyone can prepare properly (not just those who were friends with a Nordstrom stylist) for this sale.
Simply head over to the Nordstrom website or app and view the preview from the Nordstrom landing page. From there, add items to your wish list. You can even make sublists and categories from your master wish list. It’s a good idea to make one for your kids, your husband, your home, etc. I know, it’s all a little nutty but this sale is worth the hysteria. I promise. Then, those items can easily be moved right into your shopping cart when it’s your turn to shop!
So here is the deal with the timeline. Today, Nordstrom ICON cardholders can shop. Those are the highest tier cardholders who spend the most money at Nordstrom so they get first dibs on the sale. Not to worry, Nordstrom will restock throughout the entire sale and usually on days when the sale opens to more people. All Nordstrom cardholders should have been notified when their tier can shop. All cardholders are shopping by Saturday with all access open to the public on the 15th.
I can’t shop until tomorrow so I’m still over here adding to my wish list. It’s like I am at the start line of the race, but that gun has not yet fired. I’ve trained. I’ve hydrated. I’ve rested and I am ready for when it’s my turn to cross the start line!
Here is my focus as I gear up to shop tomorrow:
Do use this time to stock up on basics that aren’t so exciting but are necessary so getting them at a lower price is always a win. Socks, underwear, bras, sports bras, etc. Yep, good for the whole family too. I’ll share my favorite ones in a separate post this week.
And, of course, active wear. I am most excited about Alo and Free People Movement. The Spanx booty shaping leggings have changed my life and they are part of the sale again… with some new styles: booty shaping flare leggings…. yes, please! I want to try the “exercise dress” from Outdoor Voices that I originally thought was the most ridiculous thing but now kinda get it. I am going to give Zella another look too because while I haven’t been a fan in the past, many activewear brands have upped their game recently. And I am ready to be pleasantly surprised by Zella. I love to share my hits and my misses so if any of these predictions fail, you’ll know about it!
Do use this time to get from brands that you already know and love but don’t go on sale often. For me, that’s Alo and Free People Movement. Alo’s Airlift Leggings are just about as perfect as it gets in every respect so I will be getting both colors that are part of the sale this year.
Do use the sale for a denim refresh. What makes this sale so special is that it includes new items for the upcoming season, unlike most sales which only include end of season, older items. So that’s why I love buying new denim here. There are so many new denim options (now that we have moved on from skinny jeans), and I cannot wait to share what I am loving. I added so many styles and brands to my wish list and will be sharing fit and sizing right here, on the blog. While we all love our leggings, it still feels really good to put on a new pair of jeans that fit just right!
Do use the sale for footwear. Other influencers are going to focus on the boots. Not me. It’s sneakers all the way! I’ve gotten some of my most worn kicks at this sale in years past. At first glance, I wasn’t too thrilled with the offerings but then I realized all of the various color options. I now have more sneakers on my wish list than anything else! The most popular shoe I posted about last year and that is currently sold out everywhere, now has a new life at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
I’ve been shopping this sale for over a decade and have made and learned from my mistakes.
Don’t try to predict little kid sizes, styles and tastes for upcoming seasons. I ALWAYS get it wrong and always end up returning.
Don’t focus too much on those “special” pieces with this sale. Yes, Farm Rio (a brand that I love but that is known best for their unique, colorful and eye-catching prints) has a few pieces in the sale, but do you really want that one dress that everyone bought during the Nordstrom sale? While it may be oh so pretty, it’s not oh so special anymore when everyone in your neighborhood has it.
Don’t get so carried away in NSale craziness. 30% off of brand new styles is really exciting but I approach every sale with the same mentality— Do I really love it? Do I really need it? If the answer is no, move on. Yes, even here. But, unlike other sales, when in doubt there is no risk in purchasing it. You can always return with Nordstrom. And that’s why I love shopping there.
Here’s a sneak peak of some favorites on my wish list:
Well, I don’t know about you, but I am getting to bed early tonight because the most important thing before a big event, is sleep! I’ll be at the store bright and early before they open tomorrow to start my shopping. Be sure to follow along on Instagram @fitnessfindsonthemainline for updates all day.
Happy shopping, friends!
