Counter the Sun for a Cause

These sun shirts are so darn cute that they immediately caught my eye when I was recently in Corle & Hand, a local fashion consulting company. What I came to learn about these shirts is that they have a mission, aside from supporting our active lifestyles and protecting our skin from the sun. And the playful graphic printed on each shirt is so much more meaningful than the colors and image that initially meets the eye.

WEAR FOR GOOD is a new, local clothing brand, raising money for charities that are near and dear to the heart of the Main Line through their whimsical sun tees, sweaters and loungewear. Each unique design represents a local charity and a large percentage of the proceeds of sales go directly towards that organization.

Katie Charlson has been in the industry of designing and developing high-quality clothing brands through her woman-run consulting company, Corle & Hand, in Devon, Pa. During the pandemic, when a lot of us were helplessly stuck at home, Katie and her team decided to put their talents to use by creating WEAR FOR GOOD. Each design does GOOD by raising money for the local charity that inspired the collection.

Bee Happy.

Bee Radiant.

These messages are written on the adorable sun shirts that my son and I are wearing. Aside from BEE-ING inspirational, these shirts represent The Bee Foundation, which raises money for brain aneurysm awareness and research. Christine Kondra, the owner of Cornerstone in Wayne, and her sister Erin Kreszl, started The Bee Foundation eight years ago after losing their beloved cousin, Jenny, to a ruptured brain aneurysm. Jenny was a certified health coach who believed in the healing qualities of bees. The Bee Foundation and it’s pillars reflect Jenny’s passions: Bee Aware. Bee Courageous. Bee Inspired.

The Bee Foundation has a strong community of local supporters that pour their hearts into education, research and awareness for its mission. The Bee Foundation sponsors many local athletic events, including the Philadelphia Marathon that I will be running in later this year. To support this organization and my friends at Cornerstone, I will be raising money for the Bee Foundation when I run in November.

My daughter LOVES the sun shirts adorned with the hearts. One, because they are pink. And two, because we can match. The hearts and tender words of this particular line represent an organization that works to end the stigma of mental illness and support those suffering from the disease.

The Speedy Foundation is a local non-profit named after 3-time Olympian Jeret “Speedy” Peterson, who suffered from depression and committed suicide after secretly dealing with his own battles for years. The Speedy Foundation provides mental health awareness, education and suicide prevention for teens and athletes.

If you have a charity that you would like to support and raise money for through these playful clothing creations, you can reach out directly to the team at WEAR FOR GOOD here.
