C4 Performance and Training Fitness Studio in Devon

If your child is looking to get moving this school year, the Main Line has some pretty great options. The benefits for young people to be active are endless: build strong bones, muscles and heart health; lower cholesterol and blood pressure; reduce the risk of developing health conditions later in life; control weight; lead a healthy lifestyle; reduce anxiety and depression; build self esteem and confidence; improve balance and flexibility; prevent injury… and the list goes on and on.

All week long, I am going to be highlighting some of these awesome places on the Main Line for children and teenagers. Whether your child is training for a sport or just looking to satisfy gym credits, one of these places can help get your kid away from the video games and screens and on their way to a healthier, more active lifestyle. Sure the kids are learning general fundamentals and building foundational strength. But these programs offer way more than just the physical benefits. They teach dedication, commitment, responsibility and independence. I know that I just feel better all around when I am healthy and active, and it’s certainly no different for young people.

Let’s start with a favorite of both parents and kids: C4 Performance Training and Fitness Studio in Devon

C4 Performance Training and Fitness Studio in Devon teaches middle school and high school aged children the fundamentals of exercise and fitness to properly, safely and effectively train to achieve their various fitness-related goals. C4 Coach, Mike McGee, says his young athletes come to him with the goals of getting faster and stronger. Parents bring their children in with the goal of getting their kids moving in the current environment where they have been more isolated at home. Students come to C4 for many different reasons and with various abilities. And all are welcome.

Some students use C4 to train during pre-season to prepare for the upcoming season, a tryout or a tournament. Others use C4 to recover and stay fit during the off season. With the “Back 2 Field” program, Coach Mike works closely with the Rothman Institute and the athletes that are recovering from injury to help clear these kids to return to their sport. Still some kids come to C4 simply to satisfy physical education requirements, which is fine by Coach Mike. He just wants to see his kids be active and achieve their own personal goals, whatever those goals may be.

The studio consists of a group fitness room, a weight room and a Covid-inspired outdoor line up of bikes that is now here to stay.

Coach Mike McGee runs all of the youth training and fitness programs at C4. Mike has 29 years of experience coaching and training children and teens. You can easily see the connection he has with the kids as they arrive to workout. It’s a fun, supportive environment. The kids look forward to their workouts at C4. During Covid, C4 was one of the only places these kids had since sports were canceled. I spoke with a few parents who credit Mike to really saving their kids during the tough times of the past year and a half.

C4’s program is delivered in a group setting. Kids come in with others their age, after school, Monday through Friday, and Saturdays. 3:30 pm, 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm is for the high school students. 5:30 pm is for the middle school students. And Mondays and Wednesdays, at 5:30 pm, older elementary school students can join the middle schoolers. Mike builds the programs around age-related abilities. Kids in elementary school are learning mechanics, repetition and consistency and do not use the weight room. Middle school kids focus on training fundamentals, speed and agility, and learn weight room basics and etiquette. And high school kids get a mix of it all. Some kids on the same team come in together. Others come in with friends. Still some come in alone and find their buddies to train with. It’s all about having fun, learning fundamentals and achieving personal goals at C4. Mike gives the older kids the foundation they need to “leave the nest” and workout in a big gym like Life Time. These kids go away from C4 with the knowledge of what to do in a gym and how to properly and safely do it.

Walls of athletes, signature walls and leaderboards decorate the inside of C4, creating a supportive community that is evident as soon as you step inside. Mike uses these to celebrate accomplishments and to inspire and motivate his young athletes.

“Mike motivated both of my kids to set physical goals for themselves and to meet them. He taught them correct form for the gym and how to properly use all equipment. Now they are completely independent and confident when challenging themselves in a gym setting, and truly enjoy the experience.” (Gaby, mother of a teenage boy and girl who attend C4).

There are various monthly memberships available, and prices are based on age and training frequency. If you are interested in learning more about C4, click here and reach out to Coach Mike with any questions.
