Dancing Down the Runway at Athleta Last Week

Last Sunday, we closed out the month of Back to School with a little celebration at Athleta in Bryn Mawr. Obviously we were celebrating the awesome clothes that were the backdrop to our show. But we also celebrated the small dance studio with a huge heart, Start A Movement, located in Narberth.

I love working with Athleta because the brand isn’t just about cute activewear and athleisure. Athleta celebrates women and girls. Females of all ages, races, ethnicities, identities, sizes and abilities. They create clothes that are beautiful, sustainable, technical and made for all parts of a female’s busy life!

These two showed us how the clothes from Athleta keep up with them!

Start A Movement is built on the same principals. Owner Sam Lebowitz opened up her dream dance studio just a short time ago to provide a learning environment where all are welcome to dance, to grow and to share in a passion for dance and movement. Sam and her dancers have created “Dance School Affirmations” some of which are: I am a confident beautiful dancer; All styles are unique whether you flex your feet or point your toes; I am open to trying new dance styles. All bodies are dancer bodies; I am kind to myself and others.

I asked the dancers in the show a bunch of questions about dancing at Start A Movement and there were 3 things I heard over and over again. For one, they love dancing with their friends. Some of these girls have been dancing together since they were babies and toddlers. They also really love the teachers at Start A Movement and how the girls learn all kinds of dance from them. And third, I heard a lot about community. Start A Movement is a place where they can be themselves and feel confident, proud and supported.

When I do these fashion shows at Athleta, I always let the models pick the clothes to wear on the runway. Some pick clothes that fit their style. Others like to change it up and step outside their comfort zone. A few trends always naturally emerge when the girls pick their own looks. It’s a fun way to see what the hot fashions really are!

FLARE LEG: The biggest trend seen in this show was the flare leg. Almost every other model was wearing some sort of flare pant. Athleta has a bunch of flare leg options for women and girls in the store right now.

Our dance moms (and dad) rocked two different flare leg styles.

SHERPA JACKET: The cozy sherpa jacket was also another favorite piece that we saw over and over again on the runway.

Athleta has so many different Sherpa styles available right now.

These kindergarten cuties wrapped their fluffy jackets around their waists.

FALL COLORS: Fall hues such as “Ancient Mahogany” “Magnolia White” and “Foliage Orange” were the most popular colors.

The look I picked is just perfect for the fluctuating fall temps. For colder days, add a long sleeve under or a blazer over.

These two duos below not only coordinated their moves for the runway but they coordinated their looks, as well.

The dancers and teachers from Start A Movement did such a fabulous job rocking down the runway in their adorable Athleta clothes. I want to thank the wonderful team at Athleta who helped to put on another successful show! And a special thank you to Nicole from Beauty and the Braidzzz for doing the girls’ hair for the show.

Sam, we love what you are creating with Start A Movement. I am thrilled we got to celebrate your dance school in a way that speaks to you… through dance and athleisure!
