The Power of She Was in Full Effect at Athleta Last Week
We had a little fashion show last week at the Athleta store in Bryn Mawr. It was Ashleta’s Friends and Family event, where the entire store was 20% off (which doesn’t happen that often). To kick off the sale, the Bryn Mawr store had a fashion show, and I was invited to bring some friends to model the clothes. It was the biggest in-store event since Covid. I decided to have local fitness professionals- instructors and studio owners- model the clothes so that I could also highlight the work they do. I wanted to celebrate our local fitness industry so I called on some of my favorite fit pros who I knew would be up for the task!
We asked the in-store audience and the virtual audience that tuned in Live on Instagram to show their support and “cheer” for their fit pro. The winner got to keep her look. The store was packed and many people joined the Live and voted. With an outstanding 40 more votes than any other person, Karen Lockard won her look! Check out her winning outfit below.
Athleta’s Mantra is the Power of She. “The Power of She ignites the limitless potential of girls and women”. Atheta’s community is about females of all ages, ethnicity, races, sizes, identities and abilities and we celebrated just that in the show last Thursday.
Our models got to come into the store the week before the show and pick out their looks. They selected one outfit that would work for the fitness class they teach. The second look was for their lives outside of work. I love to hear what the clothes do for women. The words “empower”, “embrace” and “gives me confidence” were what I heard to describe how the women felt in the clothes they picked.
I had the honor of emceeing the evening. This gave me the opportunity to tell even more people all about the impressive women in the show and the important work that they do. And you know me, I love to share what I love!
The Main Line fitness queen, Marilu Sutter, opened the show for us! She’s been teaching on the Main Line since 1989 and has owned studios in Wayne, Rosemont, Haverford and now has a beautiful new studio in Bryn Mawr. An MLS Fitness class always involves a combination of cardio, strength, core, and stretch at the end. Each class is always different. Marilu has a very loyal and dedicated community. The women who attend her class every day have been doing so for many years. I can see why. Marilu’s energy is unmatched, and her class is always such a good workout. She just installed new spring floors to take her cardio to the next level. I can’t wait to test them out!
The owners of Remix Fitness, Mary Cate Wampler and Tricia Goodman, were all smiles and laughs on the runway. These two have incredible energy (as you can see) that they bring to their boutique group fitness gym in Horsham and Plymouth Meeting. They keep the workouts fun, upbeat, dynamic and always different so that their members are never bored! Their offerings include barre, bootcamp, Pilates, strength, spin and their signature “Method” class. Mary Cate and Tricia promote a strong community and an all around healthy lifestyle for the Remix members.
For the second look, Mary Cate was joined by her daughter, Cassidy. Tricia walked the runway with her little girl, Paige. It was so adorable to see the girls dance around with their mamas.
Liz McKee is the owner of LSF Pilates in Wayne, which just celebrated it’s 10th anniversary on the Main Line. LSF Pilates is a small studio that offers reformer based pilates classes for up to six people. There are also opportunities for private one-on-one sessions and physical therapy. LSF is pre and post natal friendly. Liz is very knowledgeable and it’s not just because she is eight months pregnant!
Liz picked two looks that are not maternity but that work great for her now. And she hopes to wear them after the baby, as well.
Jessie Pernia Elias and Alyza Ngbokoli literally danced down the runway and it was amazing! That’s because these girls are from 305 Fitness, which is a high energy dance workout that uses music mixes from top New York City DJ’s. The workout incorporates cardio blasts, choreography, toning with weights, sprints, hip hop and cooldown. Dance workouts are so freeing and fun and burn a ton of calories! Jessie and Alyza are currently doing pop-ups and private events all over the Philadelphia area.
Regan Marscher opened Tejas Yoga Collective last month. Tejas (which means “inner fire” in Sanskrit) Yoga Collective offers a variety of yoga classes like Power, Yin, Fire Flow and several series workshops, like teen and kids yoga. Welcome to the Main Line, Tejas Yoga Collective!
Yael Rhode and Jordana Abrams are not only best friends and fellow spin instructors at Remix Fitness, they are the co-founders of The Philly Spin In, which raises money for children afflicted with heart disease and being treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. This 2-day event is led by allstar area spin instructors. And since 2016, this charity has raised over $2.5 million dollars. You can donate to my team of eight members here.
For the second look, Yael was accompanied by her little daughter who is 4 years old. And Jordana, who is a mom of two boys, was led down the runway by her niece, Joie, who looked like a real natural up there!
Liza Herman is the General Manager and yoga instructor at the newest studio on the Main Line, YogaSix. YogaSix offers a sensory yoga experience which delivers heat, lights and music to a variety of energizing and empowering yoga classes. Liza teaches the introductory Yoga 101 and the Power class. She is all about empowering others through yoga and these clothes from Athleta empower her!
Natalie Stickler and Karen Lockard are two instructors from PopFit Studio in Havertown. PopFit is known for its unique fitness classes including TRX, Bounce and the one and only, Bungee Workout. Natalie teaches yoga, Body Pump, TRX, TRX Yoga and Bounce. Karen teaches Bounce and boxing. Natalie and Karen picked looks that work for their cool workouts!
Christine Bosch is the owner and director of Aqua Vida, the floating yoga and fitness company that is dedicated to water conservation, sustainability and philanthropy. Yes, Christine is the woman behind those breathtaking sunset stand up paddle board yoga classes that you may have seen me doing on Instagram. She holds them every Monday night at Level 28 until it gets warmer and she takes her boards outside. Aqua Vida offers a variety of fitness classes on the boards, including yoga, pilates and other bootcamp like classes. Christine also leads water clean-ups around the area.
Let’s not forget my look because I absolutely loved what I wore on Thursday night!
What an incredible night sharing Athleta’s clothes and the workouts that keep the Main Line moving! Thank you to the store’s managers, Michelle Robertshaw and Sarah Uberman, who I am blessed to get to work with. A special thank you to The Juice Pod for providing food and drink; DJ Single Handed for bringing us the beats; and Nicole from Beauty and Braidzzz who braided some of our models’ hair for the show.
I am blown away by this community every day and Thursday night was another example of why living on the Main Line is just the best!
