Onesie, Two-sie, Three-sie, Let’s Go-sie!

If you would have told me that I would be rocking a onesie a few years ago, I would have literally laughed out loud. A onesie was something for a smushy baby, not a grown woman! But, since I decided to embrace all fitness fashion a few years ago when I started this blog, it is time for the onesie to enter the scene. And yeah, guys, onesies are not just for babes (the small ones). Onesies are for babes (the hot ones, meaning YOU), too.

Some onesies are not so flattering and I understand the disdain, but I searched through the crowds of cameltoe catsuits to find the ones that are flattering, comfortable and can be worn for a workout and beyond! So stick with me here. I hope to convert your thinking by the bottom of the page.

For this article, I picked my four favorite onesies (aka “bodysuits” or “catsuits”) from three of the top activewear brands on the market. If anyone was going to perfect the onesie, it was going to be the brand with top notch fabric and fit so I started there. The fourth onesie is an unexpected crowd favorite with a pretty price tag. Onesie, two-sie, three-sie, let’s go-sie!

Lululemon Align Bodysuit. Is it surprising that I absolutely love the onesie from Lululemon? Probably not. The brand is still at the tippy top of my list for technical activewear, no matter how many new activewear lines come onto the scene. There is still nothing like the OG. And their onesie is no exception.

The Lululemon onesie is part of the Align collection, which has always been the gold standard of leggings. So if you like the Align at all, you will love the Align “Bodysuit”.

What’s even better, it’s on sale. All colors, all sizes. I guess a bodysuit doesn’t appeal to the masses the way a long sleeve running tee does. The bummer with the sale price ($104 from $148) is that it is considered “final sale”. But, I was told by a manager in the store that I could easily make an argument to customer service for a return since the onesie isn’t offered in any store to try on. So I felt comfortable enough to take the risk and order it. And I am glad that I did.

I went with a size 6 which is my true to size in Lululemon. It’s also the size that I wear in the Align legging. I was told to use my Align legging size for this piece, as well. I was hesitant because I am tall and have a long torso, but I made the right call with the size 6.

This onesie fits like a glove. I am going to give this one the top fit award. It’s the perfect fusion of the Align Legging and the Align Tank, into one very swanky suit. There is no crotch snagging or chest pulling with this one. The top has a built-in shelf bra and is reinforced just like the Align tank so that there is a nice amount of support and coverage. So much so that I did not need a separate bra underneath (which was not the case with all of the onesies that I tried). I love the support and level of compression. I feel like everything is held in and the bumps are smoothed out. And like everything Align, the suit itself feels weightless and buttery soft so that you can do all the activities that you want in it without fussing or pulling or adjusting. I would not recommend this onesie for the girls with the larger “girls”. If you wear and love the Align tank, then this onesie will work with your chest size.

Styling the bodysuit is actually pretty simple. Everything and anything looks great over a onesie because you are completely covered under whatever you throw on over it. I love this Fleece Shirt-Jacket from Madewell. The “Magenta Purple” of the bodysuit pulls out the berry color in the subtle “Heather Pale Thistle” of the jacket. And this jacket is so soft and cozy inside. I just want to throw on cashmere tube socks and sit by a fire all day long.

I also love throwing on an oversized, crisp white button-down, or any crop top for two different onesie looks. Check out my Instagram where I styled this particular bodysuit a few ways for a reel.

Free People Movement All Star Onesie. Unlike Lululemon which had one onesie (try saying that a bunch) to choose from, Free People offers 124 different kinds of onesies. Not all of them are the activewear type, but you get my point. If you want to try a variety of styles of onesies, you march your cute butt right into Free People: long sleeve, open back, full length, capri, shorts, and tons of colors. And good news, the store itself has a bunch of options so you can actually try them on. Free People has the largest selection of onesies that a girl could desire… if a girl so desires a onesie… (is that you yet?)

Since the flare leg is on trend right now, I picked a flare leg onesie from Free People. I just feel so stylish in this one.

While I love the fit, you do need to wear a sports bra underneath so you lose that cool strappy back, unless you pick a sports bra with a cool strappy back to add to it! The top cuts pretty low so regardless if you are big or small chested, a layer of support under there will help keep you covered while you are moving around. The seams around the torso and the back help to elongate and flatter in this onesie. I also felt like the fabric was more supportive than some of the other onesies that I put on from Free People. I am wearing a size medium.

Because of the cool style of this one, I went with basic black. There are so many fun shirts at Free People to throw over but I adore this oversized logo hoodie. Because the bodysuit is form fitting, I am drawn to oversized (the bigger the better) pieces to put on top.

Alo Yoga Airbrush Physique Onesie. I turn once again to another favorite activewear brand that pushes the limits with styling but is also consistently a top player in the best, most flattering fit category. The Airbrush Physique Onesie is the newest onesie from Alo. It uses the soft and sculpting “Airbrush” fabric from the same named legging. The onesie has a built-in bra for great support, especially for the larger cup sizes. This style only comes in a capri length at the moment and I am hoping Alo takes that leg all the way down next.

I do have a problem with Alo sizing though. I am not a consistent size in Alo and because most is online, I often struggle with which size to order. The small feels too tight and the medium just doesn’t give me the support I desire when I move. I ordered the medium in the onesie (my long torso always causes me to go up) and this size definitely fits. However, if I was in a store and could try on a small as well, I would want to see the difference. Often sizing down in activewear results in more compression and is better for movement overall.

I styled the Alo onesie for the street with a simple v-neck sweatshirt. This sweatshirt from Athleta is just the dreamiest. I love the rich brown color. Knock it off the shoulder for a casual, flirty look. With a bodysuit under there, you are fully covered!

Old Navy Sleeveless PowerSoft Bodysuit. This is THE onesie. The one that became a TikTok sensation. The one that “broke the internet”. That’s because it fits and looks so flattering on all body types! It was the one that turned me into a onesie wearer. And actually, it turned tons of people. Just search “Old Navy viral bodysuit” on TikTok and see for yourself! You will see ALL different body types sporting this bodysuit and you can just tell how fabulous they all feel in it! So many were willing to try a onesie for the price that Old Navy was selling this one. The bodysuit currently sells for $54, but it’s been on sale for as low as $10 at times! When I bought mine over the summer, it was thirty something.

PowerSoft fabric is Old Navy’s lightweight, smooth, stretchy and breathable performance fabric. And it’s really nice. It doesn't feel cheap at all. The scoop neckline and deeper scoop back is very flattering. This is my favorite one for the more endowed girls, but you will need extra support with a sports bra. I would recommend a bra under this one for all cup sizes if you plan to actually work out in it. If you just plan to take a hot girl walk in it, a sports bra isn’t as much of a necessity for everyone. I am wearing a size small.

The oversized button-down can be worn so many ways over a bodysuit. Wear it open, buttoned, tied, off the shoulder or around the waist. It’s my favorite way to style a onesie and so, so easy!

You may have noticed the gorgeous backdrop of the pictures in this post. I know. It’s the most perfect setting for any photo but especially “fitness finds” photos! That’s why I was thrilled when I met Victoria from Victoria Lin Photography, who takes all of the photos for Sanctuary Wellness Studio in Flourtown. Natural light, tons of greens and clean, neutral colors surround this calming space.

Sanctuary Wellness Studio is a whole serene vibe. It’s a place where you want to go to not only exercise but to hang out, meet like-minded people and feel good about yourself. Owner and instructor, Alli Bradley saw a need for community when she rebranded her long-standing cycling studio a few months ago into the Sanctuary Wellness Studio. Alli observed that when her clients returned after lockdown, they had changed. People no longer wanted a quick sweat and to go about their day. They wanted a place where they could work on all aspects of their lives. They wanted to feel part of something. They wanted to improve their overall well being. So Alli did what most business owners might be too scared to do, and she immediately pivoted to create a peaceful, supportive and empowering place for everyone who walked into her beautiful studio.

Sanctuary boasts that they have “a class for everybody,” from “soulful” yoga flow to “sculpting” mat pilates to “cardio-packed” sculpt and “lengthening” barre class. All classes are designed to connect the mind and body and make you feel your best. Sanctuary also offers a wide variety of wellness related workshops (including “Self Care Sunday Workshops”, meditation and soundbath, journaling, and guided nature walks, just to name a few). Alli also offers teacher training programs. And I saved the best for last. There is an infrared sauna in the studio that comes free and unlimited for an additional $100 with a membership. Monthly membership (currently at the founders’ rate of $125/month) includes unlimited classes and first access to the popular workshops. I encourage you to go check out the place for yourself. Your first class at Sanctuary Wellness Studio is always free!
